Walk With a Scholar (WWS) Programme is New Initiatives in Higher Education, by Directorate of Collegiate Education, Government of Kerala. Since last academic year (2014-2015) the programme has been invoked in the college for providing proper guidance to fulfill the future aspirations of the under graduate students in Arts, Science and Commerce streams having brilliant academic records. The Scheme aims at giving necessary orientation to needy students, to prepare for building career goals and give necessary guidance, motivation and mental support to identify appropriate areas for higher study, employment and success in life. A number of advance knowledge enrichment programmes, value inculcation and carrier orientation are planned to cater the needs of the students in order to keep them in pace with the new trends in academics and related areas. The scheme introduces the idea of mentoring and builds on the concept of mentor as a ‘Guide’ and ‘Friend’.
For the enrollment in the programme, is based on the screening of applications received from the meritorious first year undergraduate students in Arts, Science and Commerce who have secured at least 60% marks or equivalent grade point at the Higher Secondary/Plus Two level. However, this stipulation of minimum marks/grade point is not applicable for SC/ST students. The college level selection committee will evaluate the application submitted by each candidate and depending on the aptitude shown towards the programme; the short listed candidates will be screened for final selection.
The selected students will be mentored for three years till the complestion of their under graduate programme. Mentoring include both internal and external. Internal mentors are faculty members from the college while external mentoring is handled by Resource persons from out side. For each year 15 internal and 15 external mentoring sessions will be covered. In addition motivational visits (for second year) and mentoring camp (third year) are the parts and parcel of the programme. College level programme co-ordinator: Dr. Arun S. Prasad
Scholar Support Programme (SSP) is another new initiative programme governed by office of new initiatives under Govt. of Kerala. The programme aims at lifting of under achieved students to the mainstream. College level programme co-ordinator: Smt. Raji V.
Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) aims at capacity building in students to earn out of their potentials while learning itself. College level programme co-ordinator: Smt. Resmi Ravindran
